📅 Monthly themes

Plan a theme week without burning out

The five-day frame — hook, explore, create, share, reflect — that turns any topic into a week of learning with one prep session.

  • Monday · Hook — one irresistible object or question at circle (a real pumpkin, a jar of worms, 'what do firefighters eat for lunch?'). Write down every child question; that list IS your week.
  • Tuesday · Explore — hands on the real thing. Sensory table, investigation trays, magnifiers. No product expected.
  • Wednesday · Create — art or building in response, with open materials. The question is 'tell me about yours,' never 'match mine.'
  • Thursday · Share — dramatic play, a visitor, or a walk that connects the theme to real people and places.
  • Friday · Reflect — revisit Monday's questions: what did we find out? Add photos and child quotes to a documentation wall families actually read.

Prep once: Friday afternoon, fifteen minutes, gather materials for all five days into one labeled bin. If a day's plan dies (they always might), the theme survives — follow the children's version instead.
